About The Position

Are you mechanically inclined, dependable, and ready to be part of a purpose-driven team? Goodwill Industries of Tenneva is hiring an Equipment Technician & Material Handler to support our Sustainability Department operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining and operating equipment that helps move, process, and recycle donated goods, directly supporting Goodwill’s mission of changing lives through work and training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Mechanical experience required; experience in production or recycling environments preferred
  • Forklift license preferred (training may be provided)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to maintain accurate documentation
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and make independent decisions
  • Must be comfortable training and working with individuals with disabilities or employment barriers
  • Physically able to stand, bend, lift, and move up to 60 pounds throughout the workday
  • Flexible to work extended hours, off-hours, or on-call as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance checks and schedule repairs on equipment such as balers, forklifts, and other machinery.
  • Move materials safely throughout the warehouse and between production areas.
  • Load and unload trucks daily to support the flow of materials and goods.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, and testing of new equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs or component replacements as needed.
  • Maintain accurate logs for inspections, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor tool and equipment inventories and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards related to equipment operation.
  • Propose improvements to enhance reliability, performance, and efficiency of equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members and support individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment in the work environment.
  • Perform additional duties and assist with repairs or maintenance as assigned by the Director of Sustainability.
