About The Position

The Equipment Superintendent is responsible for managing project maintenance and equipment vendor personnel, reporting directly to the Project Manager. This role emphasizes safety leadership, requiring the superintendent to invest in, teach, and mentor project maintenance personnel to foster a safety-conscious environment on-site. The superintendent will mitigate onsite safety risks, ensure compliance with MSHA regulations, and maintain site safety standards. Responsibilities include conducting monthly safety meetings, ensuring workplace exams are complete, and managing incident investigations. The role also involves significant field interaction with the workforce, managing equipment vendor maintenance personnel, and developing maintenance strategies to optimize equipment and fleet asset reliability.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years of Maintenance General Foreman level or higher experience in heavy industry.
  • Minimum of 4 years of management experience in maintenance scheduling and workflow.
  • Strong personnel management skills.
  • Ability to conduct interviews and complete employee reviews.
  • Knowledge of the employee handbook.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project maintenance and equipment vendor personnel.
  • Foster a safety-conscious environment by mentoring project maintenance personnel.
  • Mitigate onsite safety risks and ensure compliance with MSHA regulations.
  • Conduct monthly site safety meetings to discuss incidents and safety trends.
  • Ensure all workplace exams are complete and accurate.
  • Correct pre-operational inspection issues and file forms according to TMG process.
  • File and store all safety documents on-site.
  • Follow TMG process for incident investigation and response.
  • Complete incident reports in HCSS Safety.
  • Provide a safe and healthy work environment with adequate training and supervision.
  • Review hazard identification, near miss, and incident reports.
  • Ensure maintenance employees and contractors are prequalified and have necessary paperwork.
  • Spend 25 to 40% of working time in the field interacting with the workforce.
  • Manage equipment vendor maintenance personnel and coordinate site activities.
  • Develop systems to meet monthly targets for the department.
  • Review competencies, Scopes of Work, and Schedules of Rates for contractors.
  • Help develop and meet maintenance strategy objectives.
  • Optimize equipment and fleet asset reliability.
  • Create service requests, work orders, and purchase orders in TMG accounting systems.
  • Assist Project Manager with tracking maintenance costs and accounting.
  • Participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support the development of maintenance strategies for critical assets.
  • Complete performance evaluations for direct reports and manage their career development.
  • Recruit for maintenance positions and ensure succession planning.
  • Provide applicable maintenance training as required.
  • Communicate daily needs with the project team.
  • Develop an equipment coordinator position if needed in the future.
  • Manage equipment costs, repairs, rebuilds, warranty items, and replacements.
  • Manage field services for operations.
