About The Position

Under the supervision of the Fleet Manager, the Equipment Service Technician will be responsible for: Diagnose, perform repair, preventive maintenance, and service work on various District machines and golf course equipment, including but not limited to: two-and-four-cycle gasoline and diesel engines, specialized turf maintenance equipment, all mowers, tractors, UTVs, golf cars, small engines, electric/hybrid, powered and non-powered equipment. Support the Vehicle/Equipment Service Technician workload as needed. Communicate effectively with vendors for the acquisition of parts and services. Utilize CMM software to record service and repair information. Perform field work as described, including equipment hauling. Perform repair welding; utilizes oxy/acetylene torch. Repair flat tires. Wash and polish park vehicles. Keep work area and shop vehicles clean and orderly. Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program. Perform other duties as assigned: which are reasonably related to the duties described; or which need to be performed promptly to avoid safety hazards or to protect Park District property; or which are not generally described in other job descriptions; or when management determines they are best suited to perform a particular task; or when the amount of work exceeds the availability of Park District employees within the appropriate job classification.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required. Associate Degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years as a Service Technician preferred.
  • 2 years minimum experience with engine, powertrain, electrical, auxiliary hydraulic, and hydraulic brake systems.
  • Required, current A.S.E. or approved OEM Certifications: A1 Engine Repair, or approved OEM equivalent. A6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, or approved OEM equivalent.
  • Must maintain a valid class “D” state of Illinois driver’s license.
  • Must be able to read and understand service and operation manuals, have good mechanical ability, and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to work alone and efficiently with only occasional supervisory contact.
  • Must have knowledge of machinery safety requirements and safe working practices around turf maintenance equipment and chemicals.
  • Possess basic knowledge of golf course operations and turf management practices.
  • Ability to repair, overhaul, and sharpen reel mowers. This includes grinding reels and bed knives.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to reach, walk, pull, kneel, squat and bend at the waist and knees.
  • Ability to manipulate tools as needed to complete job duties.
  • Ability to understand and complete record keeping and paperwork relative to job duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
