About The Position

The Equipment Repair Specialist 1 performs a wide variety of mechanical repair and maintenance of automobiles, heavy equipment, heavy trucks, pumps and compressors. Master mechanics repair virtually any system on the vehicle or equipment.

Requirements

A high school diploma or it's equivalent; AND
Certification in five (5) Automobile or Heavy Truck Mechanic licensing areas; AND
Valid Driver's License
Appointees within five (5) months of service must become certified as a Master Mechanic (State of Michigan and/or A.S.E. only). If the certification is not obtained, the employee will be removed from the Equipment Repair Specialist position pursuant to the Department of Personnel/Human Resources and Department of Public Services procedures.
Persons employed in this position must maintain Master Mechanic certification for the duration of their employment.

Responsibilities

Repair equipment (shop specific).
Diagnose equipment.
Place parts orders.
Maintain work area.
Maintain certifications.
Test drive vehicles.
Test components and systems using equipment such as engine analyzers, compression gauges and computerized diagnostic devices.
Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions.
Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings and other potentially troublesome areas.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
