About The Position

The Equipment Operator is responsible for the maintenance and/or construction of Regional Detention Facilities and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4). Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties. Essential Job Functions Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work. Operate a variety of department equipment such as Tractor equipped with an Ejector Scraper and Laser/GPS Systems, backhoe, and front-end loader in the development of Regional Stormwater Detention Facilities (RDF's). Will use a variety of equipment to dig detention basin and may be required to remove trees and brush in the area. Will perform a wide range of tasks around trees and wires cleaning debris with backhoe Will perform demolition work if needed Ensures adherence to safety standards when operating equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Required to respond to emergency situations as necessary. Attend training sessions as required to maintain abreast of updates or changes in occupational safety requirements. Perform routine maintenance of assigned equipment and trucks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma; or equivalent.
  • One (1) to three (3) years.
  • Applicant must have a current valid Class "C" Driver's license and be insurable ( Class "A" or "B" Commercial Driver's License preferred )
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen at City's expense.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months upon hire.
  • Knowledge of safe and effective operation of equipment and machinery such as a tractor and ejector scraper; working knowledge of public works department operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction project plans, pay careful attention to details, perform work under extreme weather conditions for long periods of time.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all other employees.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe working conditions to ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken to ensure employee safety.
  • Employee must have the ability to make good judgement when making decisions regarding their regular job duties and be able to have the following mental functions: reading, simple math calculations, and withstanding moderate amounts of stress.
