About The Position

The main objective of this position is to receive extensive training on equipment operation. Learn about and begin operating a variety of machinery and equipment, such as rubber tires, gantry cranes, rail spotter, straddle carriers, cranes, forklifts, and hustler trucks.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of relevant experience, including inventory control, shipping/receiving, and warehousing.
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, forklift operation, and deliver truck experience with medium to high proficiency is required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for following OSHA rules and other safety procedures and guidelines at all times.
  • Visually clears any and all obstacles, accounting for blind zones.
  • Identifies needs for maintenance or repairs, notifying the Maintenance team as needed.
  • Rotates every six weeks as Groundman. Works twist locks on rail cars.
  • Manages train arrival times to complete work efficiently.
  • Receives training on and begins operating hustler trucks to move containers and chassis in yard.
  • Receives training on and begins operating cranes loading and unloading rail, switches, and mounts.
  • Trains on and handles issues such as aging equipment, and process containers movement in and out of the gate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • The Port of Virginia is a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year operation, schedule and location may vary based on the needs of the operation.
