About The Position
As an Equipment Operator at Sims Metal Management, you will play a crucial role in the metal recycling process, which is essential for the circular economy. This position involves operating various types of heavy machinery, including material handlers (grapple/magnet), front-end loaders, skid steers, and forklifts. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in unloading customer vehicles and loading trailers with scrap materials, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will also be responsible for inspecting incoming materials and grading them accordingly, which is vital for maintaining quality control in our recycling processes. The job requires you to operate a straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor-type vehicle equipped with a front-mounted hydraulic powered bucket or forks. This involves lifting and transporting bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas. You will be expected to perform routine maintenance on the equipment, including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning, to ensure that it remains in good working condition. Additionally, you will complete inspection reports prior to using the equipment and maintain general housekeeping in your work area. Safety is a top priority at Sims Metal Management, and as an Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of both customers and employees in and around your work area. This position is non-union and requires a commitment to following safety protocols and procedures. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 3:30 PM, with overtime and weekend work as needed based on business necessity. This role offers a competitive pay range of $24 to $25 per hour, along with opportunities for career advancement within the company.
