Operates a variety of contractor's equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance, and repair activities; performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of street, water, and storm drainage systems. Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies. Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as mechanized broom, backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, paver, bull dozier and street sweeper. Operates jackhammers, mowers, and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems. Conducts a daily inspection of tire air pressures, fluid levels, air tanks, hydraulic fluids, transmission fluids, power steering, lights, and other critical parts of a solid waste collection vehicle prior to the execution of the daily tasks. Washes collection vehicles. Works with and assists crews in digging ditches, pole holes, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe or necessary equipment. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Ability to work successfully in extreme hot and/or extreme cold temperatures; excessive humidity; slippery and uneven walking surfaces, excessive noise, and other extreme conditions such as noxious fumes, moving heavy machinery, etc. Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
