About The Position

The Equipment Operator position at the City of Rochester is an entry-level skilled role focused on performing manual labor and operating both light and heavy equipment for maintenance activities on city infrastructure. The operator will be involved in reconstructing and maintaining city streets, bridges, and alleys, as well as managing snow and ice control during winter months. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of full-time equivalent employment experience operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment weighing over five tons.
• A Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Five years of progressive experience in the highway construction field operating heavy equipment.
• Three years of full-time experience constructing and repairing bituminous or concrete pavement.

Responsibilities

• Reconstruct and maintain city streets, bridges, alleys, and paths including bituminous and concrete work.
• Maintain sanitary and storm sewers and flood control structures.
• Perform snow and ice control during winter months, including call-in availability during off hours.
• Operate various types of equipment such as snow plow trucks, street sweepers, and wheel loaders.
• Repair and maintain bituminous and concrete streets, curbs, and sidewalks.
• Clean and repair sanitary and storm infrastructure, including reconstructing pipes and cleaning manholes.
• Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on city equipment.
• Construct and maintain flood and storm drainage facilities.
• Set up and remove temporary traffic control according to regulatory standards.
• Log and report unsafe conditions and maintenance needs to the supervisor.
