About The Position

The Equipment Operator position at the City of Rochester is an entry-level skilled role focused on performing manual labor and operating both light and heavy equipment for maintenance activities on city infrastructure. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of full-time equivalent employment experience operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment weighing over five tons.
  • A Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of progressive experience in the highway construction field operating heavy equipment.
  • Three years of full-time experience constructing and repairing bituminous or concrete pavement.

Responsibilities

  • Reconstruct and maintain city streets, bridges, alleys, and paths including bituminous and concrete work.
  • Maintain sanitary and storm sewers and flood control structures.
  • Perform snow and ice control during winter months, including call-in availability during off hours.
  • Operate various types of equipment such as snow plow trucks, street sweepers, and wheel loaders.
  • Repair and maintain bituminous and concrete streets, curbs, and sidewalks.
  • Clean and repair sanitary and storm infrastructure, including reconstructing pipes and cleaning manholes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on city equipment.
  • Construct and maintain flood and storm drainage facilities.
  • Set up and remove temporary traffic control according to regulatory standards.
  • Log and report unsafe conditions and maintenance needs to the supervisor.
