The Equipment Operator position is responsible for operating Class B wheeled vehicles and light construction equipment to maintain roads, bridges, and related structures and facilities. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and functionality of public infrastructure. The operator will report directly to the Supervisor of the Roads Division, receiving direction and supervision for daily tasks. The position does not involve any supervisory duties or responsibilities, allowing the operator to focus on equipment operation and maintenance. Key responsibilities include operating various Class B wheeled vehicles, such as dump trucks and street sweepers, in both on-road and off-road applications. The operator will also handle light construction equipment, including backhoes, rubber-tired loaders, skid steer loaders, tractors, wood chippers, and rollers. In addition to operating equipment, the position requires performing operator-level maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment, as well as maintaining accurate records of vehicle and equipment conditions. The role also involves responding to extreme weather events and other emergencies, performing snow removal and ice control as needed. The operator will engage in both skilled and unskilled manual labor, which includes tasks such as pothole patching, pavement maintenance, tree trimming and removal, roadside mowing, litter pickup, debris removal, ditch maintenance, pipe installation and repair, concrete placement and repair, flagging, and guard rail installation and repair. This diverse range of responsibilities ensures that the operator plays a vital role in the upkeep and repair of essential public infrastructure.
