About The Position

Responsible for operating various types of equipment, including but not limited to excavator (20 ton Class or smaller), dozer (150 HP or smaller), loaders (Under 4 CY), >12k forklifts, backhoe, articulated dump truck, and applicable light equipment to perform construction tasks, such as material handling, matting, land clearing, excavation, rough grade roadways and sites, underground utility work for various types of heavy civil, industrial, and wind projects. The position may involve performing other duties as required which may not be mentioned and may change from time to time as assigned by Superintendent or Foreman.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three years or more related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and operation of various GPS systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy; follow set procedures and standards, judge distances and slopes accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate equipment and includes knowledge of equipment functions, running, navigating, detects or assesses problems, mechanical aptitude, and driving.
  • Build level and/or extreme terrain and excavate land surfaces, using various pieces of construction equipment.
  • Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove top soil, vegetation, and rocks and to distribute and level earth or terrain.
  • Gather and load dirt, stone, equipment, materials and waste product from jobsite onto trucks using different pieces of equipment.
  • Excavate trenches with proper slopes per OSHA.
  • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
  • Communicate clearly, listen and understand information through spoken words and sentences.
  • Perform maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines; fill out maintenance reports daily.
  • Travel to different jobsites on limited notice.
  • Operate gasoline, diesel or electric powered equipment to move objects or material according to project specifications.
  • Follow Load capacity charts and assure proper equipment support based on equipment capacity and type.
  • Observe the travel of all loads and take appropriate action to avoid injury to personnel or damage to property.
  • Read, understand and apply Operating Manuals, plans and specifications.
  • Accurately fill out equipment and maintenance records and reports on a regular basis.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures.
