About The Position

The Equipment Operator Journey 2 position within the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is responsible for operating and servicing heavy and light-duty equipment for the maintenance of state highways and airports. This role involves a variety of tasks including snow plowing, traffic control, and maintaining infrastructure within the State Right-of-Way, contributing to the overall mission of keeping Alaska moving.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of hire.
  • Ability to operate heavy and light-duty equipment safely and effectively.
  • Experience in maintenance tasks related to highways and airports.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and service heavy and light-duty equipment for maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct winter snow plowing and snow removal using snow blowers.
  • Haul aggregate materials and perform material loading using loaders.
  • Maintain vegetation, traffic signs, barricades, fences, bridges, culverts, drainage structures, bike paths, and road surfaces.
  • Employ steam boilers for thawing drainage structures.
  • Perform traffic control duties, including flagging.
  • Work shifts and respond to emergency situations as needed.
