About The Position

This position is responsible for operating and driving heavy equipment and performing manual labor associated with department projects.

Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for 1-2 years
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Tennessee for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
This position requires a CDL; proficiency with 4 or more pieces of heavy equipment
Knowledge of achieving grade, drainage and proper compaction
Knowledge of City policies and procedures pertaining to construction/maintenance/improvement
Skill in operating equipment such as a dump truck, motor grader, excavator, bulldozer, street sweeper and backhoe
Skill in operating various hand and power tools
Skill in oral and written communication

Operates a variety of equipment or vehicles with involving routine operations which may include a utility cart, truck with trailer, dump truck or bucket truck.
Hauls, transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials.
Performs tasks associated with grounds maintenance, roadside maintenance, or landscaping projects.
Performs general and preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
Performs various tasks associated with road maintenance and construction projects.
Performs tasks associated with maintenance of park grounds, athletic fields, and recreational areas and other City property.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
