The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Equipment Support maintenance equipment; light and heavy vehicles on assigned projects or activities of a public works nature. The position requires manual labor work, completed alone or as part of a crew. You will perform a variety of manual tasks and activities, i.e., perform work in Street maintenance. Work includes on-site maintenance, cleaning, and service equipment, emergency needs, vehicles, tools, and work area. Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials, and equipment. Observe and follow safety procedures and precautions at work sites. This position is designated among essential personnel and requires reporting to work during all significant weather events or emergency incidents. Direct Supervisor: Crew Leader and Foreman Essential Functions Overseen the sealing of roadway cracks, pours, and finishes concrete, places hot or cold asphalt mix, and other materials required for general road maintenance and repairs to required standards. Experienced safety operating specialized trucks/machinery/ heavy equipment used within each of the divisions to complete a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to, hauling, dumping, and spreading gravel, sand, asphalt, plowing snow, picking up and hauling trash, and transporting Street Department equipment, tools, and material. Experience safely operating specialized trucks/machinery/heavy equipment used within each of the divisions, such as the Hot Mix Patch Truck, Volumetric Cement Truck, Asphalt Distributor, Milling Machine, Grade all Maintainer-Motor Grade, Backhoe/Loader, Skid Loader, as well as other light/heavy equipment engaged in highly complex road reconstruction. Identifies hazards to determine if the job can be performed safely; conducts required safety checks, Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in the construction of highways roads. Inputs, manages, and utilizes inspections and other data and communications using the City Works database and Geographic Information System (GIS) Maintains a safe work area, including placing and removing cones, barricades, warning devices, and/or directing traffics at work sites to ensure the safety of the work crew and pubic, cleans up work sites upon completion of the job; picks up all tools and equipment, secures the job site if returning later. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, attending professional development courses, and attending and/or courses as directed. Performs other duties and functions as assigned, required, or directed, or which are necessary, readily apparent, or related to other duties and responsibilities. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools for constructing highways, road curbs, and gutters. All well as knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in producing precision technical plans. Safely and correctly apply a road construction and maintenance techniques. Safely operates light and heavy road maintenance and construction vehicles and equipment. Knowledge of how to safely operate, but not limited to gas-powered jackhammers, tampers, saws back hoes, grande all, 1- or 2-ton trucks, mini and large excavators, off-road vehicles, industrial mowers, skid steers, chainsaws or woodchippers Knowledge and adherence to all applicable Sate and Federal laws, local ordinances, City and Departmental policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Knowledge and adherence to the Texas Motor Vehicle Code and other codes, laws and statutes relation to the position. Hand-on experience with Microsoft Suite, Database management and web applications. Ability to adhere to the personal protective t (PPE) policy and maintain individually provided PPE in a fictional condition. All uniforms and PPE should be clean and equipped when scheduled to work. Attends shifts according to company policy. This position is subject to responding to emergencies after normal working hours. Occasional overtime is required. Ability to be flexible with last-minute schedule changes, location changes and time of shift changes. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and officials, representatives of outside agencies, and the general public,. Communicate effectively through verbal and written means, including conveying and following instructions and providing information to the public. Physical Characteristics : The job requires to be able to twist and kneel for up to 6 hours daily, bend, turn, climb, crouch and crawl up to 2 hours daily: stoop for up to 3 hours daily; walk, sit and stand up to 4 hours daily; graps objects up to 8 hours daily, lift and carry up to 80 lbs, push or pull utp to 20 lbs, grasp up to 8hours. May be exposed to vehicular traffic and must follow all maintenance of traffic (MOT) procedures. Environmental Factors: This is an essential department; all staff will be called to SERVE with all storms, catastrophes, emergencies, or as otherwise needed. Physical ability to work under temperature extremes and for extended hours. Working within confined spaces can be necessary for some tasks. Working in the proximity of light and heavy machinery.
