Equipment Operator III/Solid Waste

About the position

The essential function of the position within the organization is to operate heavy equipment in the operation, maintenance and/or construction of County landfill operations, grounds and infrastructure. The position is responsible for operating complex and specialized heavy equipment, inspecting and maintaining equipment, and performing related work as assigned. The position works under general supervision according to some procedures; decides how and when to complete tasks. This position shall be required to assist with emergency support functions in the event of a declared emergency and/or any other emergency duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment in landfill operations, grounds, and infrastructure maintenance.
• Inspect and maintain heavy equipment.
• Perform related work as assigned.
• Assist with emergency support functions during declared emergencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or vocational training.
• Three (3) years of related experience.
• Valid Florida CDL class B driver's license.
• Hazwopper and spotter training within six (6) months of hire.
