About The Position

The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently operate the Sewer Washout Truck, and to perform minor maintenance and servicing of the assigned equipment in accordance to existing safety programs, work standards, and procedures. Besides operating the Sewer Washout Truck, the operator will be required to inspect and maintain the equipment's tire inflation; oil levels; leaks (oil, fuel, water, etc.); coolant in radiator; lights and signal devices; clear and clean windows, lamp lenses, mirrors; and functioning windshield wipers. May also be required to operate all equipment assigned to lower level Equipment Operators, as well as all equipment assigned to the level of Equipment Operator III, as assigned by the department. Depending on the assigned vehicles, Equipment Operator III may be required to possess a valid Louisiana Class A or B Commercial Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position. Performs related work as required. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Class C (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and an acceptable driving record; plus, meets one of the following two options:
  • I. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish and: (A) Verifiable, satisfactory work experience (or completion of an approved Parish training course) in the operation of a Sewer Washout Truck OR (B) Certification by an Appointing Authority that applicant has been adequately trained to operate a Sewer Washout Truck.
  • II. Minimum age of 18 years and verifiable, satisfactory work experience (or certifiable completion of an acceptable training course) in the operation of a Sewer Washout Truck. Copies of licenses and certificates awarded for completion of training should be submitted with application.
  • NOTE: A valid Class C (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana CDL. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
