About The Position

The position involves operating heavy equipment to construct, maintain, and repair paved and unpaved County roads, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, ditches, catch basins, and storm drainage systems. The role also includes maintaining public rights-of-way and assisting other divisions and departments, including maintaining County landfills. The operator may use dump trucks, back hoes, slope mowers, and asphalt paving machines. Responsibilities include manually loading and unloading materials, transporting equipment and materials to and from work sites, and using hand and power tools for various manual tasks. The operator is responsible for inspecting equipment for safety and maintenance, performing routine maintenance and cleaning of tools, and maintaining accurate work records.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment to construct, maintain, and repair paved and unpaved County roads.
• Operates heavy equipment to maintain public rights-of-way.
• Assists other divisions and departments as necessary, including maintaining County landfills.
• Operates dump trucks, back hoes, slope mowers, and asphalt paving machines.
• Manually loads and unloads materials onto vehicles.
• Transports equipment and materials to and from work sites.
• Uses hand and power tools in various manual tasks.
• Inspects equipment to ensure proper and safe working condition.
• Reports defects or required maintenance to the supervisor.
• Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.
• Maintains accurate and complete work records as required.
• May provide instruction to new crew members as assigned.
