About The Position

The Equipment Operator II position involves skilled work in the safe and efficient operation of various trucks and heavy construction equipment. This role includes general supervision over lower classification workers and requires adherence to established routines or detailed assignments for each job. The operator will be responsible for operating trucks of all sizes, including heavy-duty vehicles, and performing related laboring tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of operation and servicing of trucks and related automotive equipment.
  • Some knowledge of, and experience in, the operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Massachusetts traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations governing heavy truck and hoisting equipment operations.
  • Knowledge of grounds keeping and building maintenance operations.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating heavy motor-driven equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy and medium trucks.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or greater, or a CDL Class B permit with the ability to obtain full CDL within six months of hire.
  • Possession of a Class 2B or higher Hoisting License, or ability to obtain it within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operates trucks of all sizes, including heavy trucks with 4-wheel drive, for road maintenance and construction work.
  • Operates truck-mounted sand spreader, asphalt spreader, and similar attachments.
  • Operates a tractor with plowing or mowing equipment.
  • Operates a skid steer loader with attachments.
  • Operates a self-propelled street roller, stone and gravel spreader, snow loader, or other seasonal equipment.
  • Operates construction equipment such as a front-end loader, backhoe-loader, or rubber tire excavator on an emergency or temporary basis.
  • Plans daily routes for cleaning catch basins, manholes, etc., using a truck with equipment.
  • Performs related work, including unskilled and semi-skilled laboring tasks.
