About The Position

The purpose of this position is to operate medium equipment, with the occasional use of light or heavy equipment, used to excavate, load, transfer, or move dirt, gravel, or other material in the maintenance or construction of streets, city infrastructure, and other public properties as assigned. May assist with special events.Operates a variety of medium equipment, with the occasional use of light or heavy equipment, to and from work locations, construction sites, etc; performs minor maintenance and service checks on equipment; and transports tools and equipment to and from work sites. Responsible for operation or and routine and preventative maintenance of equipment. Follows schedule to ensure all tasks are completed. Identifies issues and notifies supervisor. Performs semi-skilled labor work to various maintenance and construction activities. Loads and transports equipment to properties. Sets up work zones as appropriate and insures safety procedures and proper use of safety equipment at all times. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, and must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test and successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge is equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience of operating light to medium equipment is required.
  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge is equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
  • Must possess a minimum of Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Ability to learn geography of City including major streets and landmarks.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Required to be available for "stand-by" duty.
  • This position is classified as a DOT position and is subject to drug and alcohol testing, ongoing driver record checks, and is subject to all U.S. DOT regulations during the course of employment.
  • Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, and must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test and successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.
  • Intermediate ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias and ability to deal with a system of real numbers; and practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement.
  • Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses.
