Wastewater Management oversees all aspects of wastewater functions, including the construction, operation, and maintenance of the City’s sanitary and storm systems, as well as administrative functions such as implementing policies, establishing cost controls and setting fees to maintain a revenue base sufficient to support operational requirements and capital improvements program, and responding to customer inquiries regarding sewage and storm drainage service charges. The Wastewater Management Division at DOTI is seeking Equipment Operators to join our team and support essential city services.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Two (2) years of general labor experience which must include six (6) months of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.
  • Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
  • Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English: Converse with the general public Understand highway traffic signs and signals Respond to official inquiries Make entries on reports and records

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Wastewater and/or Public Works
  • Experience working in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, etc.) and environments (dust, fumes, etc.)
  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps

Responsibilities

  • Operate light- to medium-sized industrial equipment to support construction, maintenance, and repair activities, ensuring the safe and efficient use of equipment and related tools.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with federal guidelines, checking for mechanical issues, proper tire pressure, and overall safe operating conditions.
  • Monitor on-board instruments and equipment performance during operation, taking routine corrective action when malfunctions or irregularities occur.
  • Perform a significant amount of manual labor in support of construction and maintenance tasks; while driving is part of the role, the position is primarily labor-intensive.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance such as washing, fueling, and lubricating equipment, and complete minor repairs as needed to keep vehicles operational.
  • Maintain accurate trip records, logs, and reports; document equipment defects, accidents, traffic violations, and any vehicle damage.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public in a courteous and professional manner, providing information related to assigned work.
  • Participate in snow removal operations as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
