About The Position

The Equipment Operator safely operates various pieces of heavy equipment in the mining and production process of aggregates. This role involves operating equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and dozers to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or transport bulk materials to and from the mine site, storage, or processing areas, feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes, and load trucks or railcars. The operator is responsible for maintaining separate piles of different material types, ensuring proper levels of aggregates and raw material, and notifying management of impending shortages. Additional duties include stockpiling excess raw material, breaking up large rocks, keeping equipment and the plant site clean, performing daily pre and post-trip inspections, and completing required reports. The operator must also adhere to all company and governmental safety rules, wear required PPE, follow environmental regulations, and secure assigned equipment daily.

Requirements

  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, dozers, etc.
  • Verbal communication.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to learn and use iPad, iPhone and company software applications.
  • Knowledge of sand and gravel products and operations.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of site plans.
  • High School education.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment (excavator, backhoe, dozer and other heavy equipment) to push, pull, lift, stack, tier or transport bulk materials to and from mine site, storage or processing areas, feed conveyors, hoppers or chutes, and load trucks or railcars.
  • Maintain separate piles of different types of material by understanding the differences between the types of material and reading the site plan.
  • Maintain proper levels of aggregates and raw material, including keeping the hoppers full of aggregates.
  • Notify manager of impending shortages on a timely basis.
  • Stock pile excess raw material to be processed and break up large rocks to a manageable size as needed.
  • Keep equipment and plant site clean at all times.
  • Perform all pre and post-trip inspections and complete daily inspection reports.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Follow proper procedures and complete required documentation if an accident or injury occurs.
  • Notify manager or Safety Department as required.
  • Understand and comply with all safety rules set forth by the company and governmental regulatory agencies.
  • Notify manager and the Safety Manager immediately of any potential or current safety problems.
  • Wear required PPE.
  • Follow all environmental regulations and clean up any excess material that could cause environmental problems.
  • Lock and secure assigned equipment daily at the end of the shift or as otherwise required, including removing keys from assigned equipment daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and outside labor as requested, which may include, but not limited to, cleaning up around the plant, sweeping, shoveling, moving wheelbarrows, picking up equipment or supplies.
  • Fill in for colleagues (at other locations) as needed.
