About The Position

The Equipment Operator 1 position at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission involves manual work of limited skill in the operation of trucks and lighter highway construction equipment. The role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of motor equipment, performing minor repairs, and maintaining equipment while adhering to established procedures under supervision. The position requires working extended hours and being on call for normal and emergency operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent certification.
• Must possess a valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL).
• Must possess an N or X endorsement on their CDL to operate tank vehicles.
• Must not have restrictions on their CDL that prohibit operation of manual transmission vehicles, intrastate driving, or driving vehicles equipped with airbrakes.
• Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Physical Card).

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of assigned construction and maintenance equipment including trucks, tractor mowers, loaders, and rollers.
• Services and performs minor repairs on motor vehicles.
• Cleans and conducts minor maintenance or repair work on assigned equipment.
• Reports any defective operations and assists mechanics in making repairs.
• Keeps records of equipment operation.
• Performs manual labor when not operating equipment.
• Performs routine clerical tasks.
• Works extended hours, on call 24/7, to assist in the management of normal and emergency operations.
• Utilizes a PTC radio system for transmitting and receiving information.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
