JOB SUMMARY The Equipment Operations Technician supports daily operations across the shop, yard, and parts functions to ensure equipment readiness, organization, and overall operational efficiency. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment, washing and staging GSE, organizing parts and inventory, and assisting technicians with shop support activities. This position plays a critical role in keeping fleet operations running smoothly and is designed as an entry point into Mercury GSE’s technician career path. Individuals who demonstrate strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and reliability will have the opportunity to develop technical skills and advance into a Technician I role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1-2 years of experience in a shop, yard, warehouse, fleet, or equipment-related environment preferred
  • Prior exposure to heavy equipment, automotive, diesel, or mechanical work is a plus (formal or informal)
  • Entry-level candidates with demonstrated mechanical aptitude (school programs, personal projects, or hands-on experience)
  • Basic familiarity with tools, equipment handling, or parts organization preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required; ability to operate or learn to operate equipment safely
  • Ability to speak, read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence utilizing the English language.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Knowledge of basic shop math.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily shop and yard operations to ensure equipment readiness and workflow efficiency
  • Wash, clean, and prepare GSE for deployment and customer delivery
  • Move, stage, and position equipment within the yard and shop to support operational priorities
  • Assist with equipment intake and release processes, including staging and basic condition checks
  • Assist with organizing and stocking parts inventory as needed
  • Provide operational support to technicians, including parts retrieval, tool organization, and work area preparation
  • Maintain shop, yard, and parts areas in a clean, organized, and safety-compliant condition
  • Able to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle
  • Report any safety violation, machining equipment misusage, and/or properly performed work to supervisor or lead
  • Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by federal, local, and state governments, Mercury GSE, and HSE Procedures
  • Keep work area clean and free of any safety hazards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
