The Equipment, Mechanic and Shop Manager at East Texas A&M University (ETAMU) is responsible for performing daily operations related to the University Animal Science Farm. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four (4) years of related experience with farm machinery and equipment.
  • Mechanical skills necessary.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.
  • Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends when necessary, including holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree with emphasis in Animal Agriculture.
  • Class A Driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and supervises student employees in the maintenance and use of all farm machinery, equipment and vehicles.
  • Prepares fields for crops, maintains farm and pastureland for production, including fertilizing and herbicide applications.
  • Harvests forage including cutting and baling hay to feed all farm animals through the winter.
  • Maintains hay, equipment and tool inventory.
  • Maintains and services all farm equipment, vehicles, barns and facilities.
  • Includes welding, carpentry, minor plumbing and mechanic work.
  • Replaces and maintains fences, gates, barns, hay racks, feed troughs, etc. when necessary.
  • Schedules, performs and documents services on all equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintains a clean shop and workplace.
  • General knowledge and troubleshooting of diesel/gas engines and mechanic skills.
  • Assists students and professors with class projects, farm tours and agricultural related competitions.
  • Transports animals to and from sale facilities.
  • Ability to obtain pesticide license.
