About The Position

We are seeking an Equipment Manager to oversee the construction fleet in the greater Western Connecticut area. This is a high-impact role focused on maximizing the efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of a diverse range of heavy equipment and vehicles across multiple job sites.

Requirements

3+ years of experience managing equipment or fleet operations, ideally in construction
Familiarity with heavy construction equipment such as pavers, rollers, excavators, and loaders
Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and repair protocols
Experience with equipment inventory systems and cost tracking
Basic mechanical knowledge and comfort working around equipment and shop staff
Effective communication and leadership skills
Strong organizational habits and attention to detail
Knowledge of OSHA and industry-specific safety standards

Nice To Haves

Experience in the heavy civil construction industry
Technical certifications in equipment maintenance or safety
Previous supervisory experience managing a team of mechanics or operators
Experience negotiating with vendors and managing equipment procurement

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate equipment records, including location, condition, and usage
Oversee fleet purchasing and rental decisions based on project demands and budget
Schedule and manage preventative maintenance, repairs, and overhauls
Assign and allocate equipment to ensure optimal utilization across crews and sites
Develop and manage equipment budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings
Negotiate vendor contracts for purchasing, maintenance, and repair services
Provide training on equipment safety, operation, and maintenance best practices
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and investigate incidents when necessary
Manage transportation, storage, and eventual disposal of equipment
Lead a team of mechanics and operators, providing clear communication and performance feedback
