About The Position

We are seeking an Equipment Manager to oversee the construction fleet in the greater Western Connecticut area. This is a high-impact role focused on maximizing the efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of a diverse range of heavy equipment and vehicles across multiple job sites.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience managing equipment or fleet operations, ideally in construction
  • Familiarity with heavy construction equipment such as pavers, rollers, excavators, and loaders
  • Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and repair protocols
  • Experience with equipment inventory systems and cost tracking
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and comfort working around equipment and shop staff
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational habits and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of OSHA and industry-specific safety standards

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the heavy civil construction industry
  • Technical certifications in equipment maintenance or safety
  • Previous supervisory experience managing a team of mechanics or operators
  • Experience negotiating with vendors and managing equipment procurement

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate equipment records, including location, condition, and usage
  • Oversee fleet purchasing and rental decisions based on project demands and budget
  • Schedule and manage preventative maintenance, repairs, and overhauls
  • Assign and allocate equipment to ensure optimal utilization across crews and sites
  • Develop and manage equipment budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for purchasing, maintenance, and repair services
  • Provide training on equipment safety, operation, and maintenance best practices
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and investigate incidents when necessary
  • Manage transportation, storage, and eventual disposal of equipment
  • Lead a team of mechanics and operators, providing clear communication and performance feedback
