About The Position

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. As a Lead Equipment Mechanic you will be engaged installing, commissioning, and maintaining specialty equipment with the ultimate goal of supporting satellites from the stages of early testing, integration, through to launch and on to production stability. You will maintain complex mechanical, electrical and overhead cranes to ensure their efficient operations and reliable integration. You will work closely with colleagues throughout Project Kuiper’s inter-disciplinary team to ensure that critical needs and demands on shift are being met. You will be essential in the on-time delivery of hardware capable of achieving mission success as you are directly responsible for all equipment supporting these functions, and will have broad scope and autonomy to fill all gaps between equipment concept and operations. You will lead the charge to develop, improve, review and maintain the preventative maintenance program while ensuring appropriate procedures in place to supporting spacecraft operations and integration.

Requirements

  • Hands on installation of electrical and control systems with troubleshooting related to a variety of manufacturing equipment
  • Develop, design, and implement solutions to difficult problems with a sense of urgency
  • Maintaining and Troubleshooting of overhead cranes
  • Develop and continually improve Preventative and Breakdown Maintenance for overhead cranes and electrical systems
  • Work directly with engineering and operation teams on design feedback, commissioning, and ongoing operations
  • Work across teams to develop clear and concise project details for mechanical, electrical, and machine functionality requirements allowing for expedient installations leading to successful operations
  • Able to obtain and maintain a US Passport & must meet customs entry requirements to include but not limited to: Yellow Fever vaccine and other immunization requirements as recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Ability to pass Kennedy Space Center background checks

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or certificate in a related electrical field.
  • Minimum 7 years working in a manufacturing environment troubleshooting and maintaining electrical equipment.
  • Minimum 5 years maintain leading maintenance teams
  • Experience installing, connecting, troubleshooting and maintaining industrial electrical systems including knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, and UL508A
  • Advanced experience with preventative maintenance programs from conception through well defined processes
  • Experience with industrial controls equipment including PCs, PLCs, IP networking, pneumatics, sensors, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Can read, interpret, and execute electrical schematics and drawings to aide in expedite troubleshooting through repairs
  • Experience assembling and commissioning custom machinery including cranes, tool balancers, pneumatics, and programmable logic controllers
  • Experience setting up and maintaining a workshop in a development and high-speed production environment
  • Experience with rigging and lifting operations
  • Developing and Maintaining all maintenance activities
  • Lead electrical and controls activities as required.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintaining industrial equipment and machinery in production and development environments
