About The Position

The Intermodal Equipment & Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the repair lifecycle of fleet assets, managing maintenance-related financial processes, and ensuring compliance with railroad standards. This role acts as a bridge between operations, accounting, and our railroad partners to minimize downtime and protect the company from unnecessary claims and expenses.

Requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of Intermodal equipment (containers/chassis/trailers) and common repair requirements.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with railroad and DoT regulations.
  • Claims Management: Experience navigating the claims and subrogation process within a logistics or transportation environment.
  • Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively across departments, including Accounting, Account Management, and Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and oversee repairs for rail-related and street damage to trailers and containers, ensuring all assets are returned to service promptly.
  • Monitor equipment quality in collaboration with railroad partners to identify rail-specific damages and initiate the subrogation process where applicable.
  • Manage the maintenance invoicing process, working closely with Accounting to verify, approve, and process payments for repair vendors.
  • Evaluate and adjudicate claims submitted by railroads or customers; determine the validity of claims and authorize payments as necessary.
  • Document and track all claims and seal exceptions to ensure accurate records are available for future chargebacks or disputes.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the Intermodal operations team regarding maintenance, equipment specifications, and rail-related inquiries.
  • Ensure strict adherence to railroad requirements, including blocking and bracing standards, weight limitations, specific intermodal loading protocols, etc.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of accessorial policies for both the railroad and the company to prevent unbilled costs and ensure operational compliance.
