Nice To Haves

  • Certification or formal training in equine‑assisted services, equine‑facilitated learning, or equine‑assisted therapy (e.g., EAGALA, PATH Intl., or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience handling and working safely with horses
  • Strong understanding of horse behavior and nonverbal communication
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in supportive, respectful ways
  • Experience working in behavioral health, youth services, trauma‑informed programs, or special populations
  • Training in trauma‑informed care or experiential learning models
  • Experience collaborating with licensed therapists or clinicians
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Previous work in therapeutic riding centers, wellness programs, or nonprofit settings

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate individual and group equine‑assisted sessions in alignment with program goals and participant needs
  • Prepare and maintain horses for sessions, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare
  • Create emotionally and physically safe environments for participants and animals
  • Guide participants through structured equine‑assisted activities focused on self‑awareness, communication, emotional regulation, and personal development
  • Clearly communicate expectations, boundaries, and safety protocols prior to and during sessions
  • Observe participant interactions and provide appropriate, strength‑based feedback
  • Adapt activities to accommodate participant abilities, emotional readiness, and comfort levels
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, therapists, educators, or case managers when applicable
  • Maintain session documentation, progress notes, attendance records, and consent forms as required
  • Support stable operations, including grooming, feeding coordination, equipment use, and arena safety
  • Uphold ethical standards, confidentiality, and organizational policies
