About The Position

The Equine Pharmacology Technician (SRA 1) at the University of California, Davis, plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacological research involving Thoroughbred horses. Under supervision, the technician will assist in maintaining a herd of exercised research horses and implement drug administration studies as designed by the Pharmacologist. This position involves data collection, analysis, and laboratory management to ensure the smooth operation of pharmacological studies.

Requirements

  • Experience working with potentially fractious horses, including handling sedated horses.
  • Experience collecting blood samples via direct venipuncture.
  • Skills to work with horses in an experimental setting, including administering drugs intravenously, orally, and topically.
  • Computer skills for data entry, spreadsheet creation, and database maintenance.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • Skills to maintain and operate a wide range of manual and computer-controlled equipment.

  • Skills to train and instruct student assistants and other lab personnel.
  • Computer skills to effectively use Windows-based programs and statistical software.

Responsibilities
