The internship program at WECH is designed to provide graduate veterinarians knowledge and experience that will prepare them for clinical practice or a residency program. The Wisconsin Equine Clinic offers hospital (including surgery, internal medicine, reproductive and emergency medicine) and ambulatory experiences with special emphasis on providing each intern with mentors in every area of veterinary medicine. The hospital is staffed with technicians 24/7. Interns rotate between hospital and ambulatory services. Interns are responsible for management of in-hospital cases, anesthesia for emergency cases, participation in ambulatory cases and emergency duty. The interns assume increasing case management, client communication, and solo ambulatory responsibilities throughout the year. After the initial training period, interns are encouraged to "customize" their experiences to achieve their long-term career goals.
