About The Position

The Riding Instructor is an outgoing, positive individual with a passion for horsemanship. The Riding Instructor will play a key role in our lesson program teaching beginner to intermediate lessons. This person has a strong knowledge of horsemanship both on the ground and in the saddle. They ride at an advanced level and have the ability to translate their knowledge to riders of all levels including knowing a variety of exercises to push riders and help build skill. This job is primarily weekday afternoon/evenings with occasional weekend work.

Requirements

  • Excellent horse husbandry and horse handling skills. Comfortable handling and riding difficult horses.
  • Must have experience teaching riding lessons
  • Ability to remain calm, think clearly and act quickly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Excellent customer service and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work weekday afternoons and evenings and occasional weekends
  • High school education or equivalent preferred; supplemented by one to two years of equestrian experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Prior knowledge of horses and equine behavior required
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training; will train

Responsibilities

  • Teaches beginner through intermediate lessons depending on skill level. May have opportunity to teach advanced.
  • Works with Equestrian Program Coordinator and Instructor to decide on when to advance participants to the next level, assign horses and sign up participants for the horse show.
  • May assist with other equestrian programs including, but not limited to: 1. Trail rides 2. Birthday parties 3. Lead line rides 4. Adopt a horse 5. General programs
  • Assist with lessons by helping pull horses from pastures, and teaching participants to groom, saddle and bridle
  • Engages participants by teaching them how to be safe around horses on the ground including proper etiquette for approaching and handling horses
  • Makes sure all program areas stay clean and presentable
  • Ensures all tack is cleaned regularly and grooming boxes are organized
