About The Position

The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a part-time Equestrian Facility Staff Member. The Equestrian Facility staff member reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Equestrian Facility Manager. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Equestrian Facility Manager. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. Job Purpose: To assist the Equestrian Facility Manager with all aspects of general horse care and facility maintenance. Additionally assistance with mowing, lawn care or other farm maintenance as needed. Requirements

  • Prior related experience working with and handling horses
  • Ability to treat minor injuries, and knowledge of general equine first aid.
  • Ability to interact successfully with other employees
  • Excellent communication skills including interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a collegiate riding setting.

Responsibilities

  • Duties include aspects of general horse care such as cleaning of the barn, mucking stalls, daily restocking and transport of hay and bedding (lifting and transport of up to 50 pounds), watering, cleaning paddocks, assisting with the vet and farrier as needed and basic first aid.
