About The Position

Under the supervision of the Equestrian Center Barn Manager, ranch hand responsibilities include providing quality horse care in a safe, well-maintained facility. This role serves as an on-call, variable part-time position to support operations during staff absences and increased workload periods, requiring flexibility and reliability for short-notice scheduling.

Requirements

  • Previous experience handling horses is required.
  • Ability to work a flexible, variable schedule based on operational needs, including availability for short-notice call-ins, vacation coverage, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrated reliability and responsiveness for last-minute scheduling needs is essential.
  • Must have the ability to be flexible and be able to adapt to changing daily schedules based on timelines and equipment repair needs.
  • Working sometimes in challenging and extreme weather conditions.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and be insurable by the KCRMA’s insurance carrier by maintaining an acceptable driving record, if over the age of 18 and tasked with operating the facility’s machinery.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Handle horses in stall and turnout, feeding grain and hay, mucking stalls with pitchfork and wheelbarrow, carrying hoses, cleaning and filling water buckets and troughs throughout the property, carrying grain bags, wheeling shavings, sweeping barn aisles and tack rooms/houses, raking hay around the facility, cleaning turnout pens, picking up and dumping muck buckets.
  • Assist in the upkeep and management of landscaping projects.
  • Undertake minor carpentry and painting tasks.
  • Replace, repair and maintain fences, gates, gutters, turn-out sheds, and other facility components and structures as needed
  • Operation of tractor, forklift, and other farm equipment to perform duties such as stacking hay bales, excavating pens, and maintaining footing in the riding arenas and throughout the property, provided the individual meets the minimum age requirements for operating such equipment.
