About The Position

The New York State Division of Human Rights is dedicated to eliminating discrimination, remedying injustice, and promoting equal opportunity, access, and dignity. Reporting to the DEIA Program Manager, the DEIA Development Coordinator will help develop and lead the implementation of strategies to foster belonging through the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility across the Division and externally. The new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Office will lead the work to create a welcoming, inclusive and equitable environment for all staff and the public interacting with the Division.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience in equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, or human rights.
  • Qualifying experience includes working with organizations concerned with equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, civil rights, minority business development, or similar programs; or in recruiting, training, and upgrading the educational and job qualifications of protected class members.
  • Associate's degree may substitute for two years of the nonsupervisory experience; bachelor's degree for four years; and J.D. or master's degree for five years.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as project manager for key DEIA Office initiatives, such as report creation, translation projects, procurement-related activities, project plan development and implementation, quality assurance review and more.
  • Develops and maintains team's project management tracker, helping ensure deadlines and goals are met.
  • Identifies data sets and makes recommendations for appropriate data collection to measure progress in diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility goals related to agency's workforce and interactions with the public.
  • Creates and maintains mechanisms to effectively obtain feedback from employees and the public about workplace experience and customer experience.
  • Prepares reports of agency's diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility metrics, including DEIA Office's projects and metrics, in collaboration with other agency units.
  • Leads the work to identify and address opportunities to optimize team's efficient workflow and process optimization.
  • Develops relevant diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programming to enhance cultural awareness among staff all year round, including messaging and events, in collaboration with other agency units.
  • Liaises with other agency units to consult and troubleshoot best practices and considerations related to programs day-to-day operations that intersect with diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Conducts research about trends, best practices and innovations in the diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility space to inform recommendations.
  • Meets with relevant external stakeholders to exchange information on agency diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Represents the agency at events and delivers trainings on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, as needed.
  • Fills in for DEIA Program Manager, in their absence.
