About The Position

The Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist for the City of Columbus is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws within the Department of Public Safety. This role involves investigating claims of unlawful employment discrimination, providing EEO training, and reviewing policies to recommend changes. The specialist plays a crucial role in promoting equal employment opportunities and addressing issues of misconduct or noncompliance.

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor's degree.
• Two years of experience conducting civil, criminal, or factual investigations in matters of noncompliance to policy, rule, or law.
• A master's degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
• A law degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Investigates claims of unlawful employment discrimination within the Department of Public Safety.
• Interviews complainants, witnesses, and others to gather facts for investigations.
• Provides and ensures appropriate EEO training for all personnel in the Department of Public Safety.
• Investigates formal complaints of unlawful discrimination and assists personnel in filing complaints with the EEO Office and the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.
• Communicates EEO laws and departmental rules to all personnel in the Department of Public Safety.
• Reviews EEO policies and procedures and recommends changes to the Public Safety Director.
• Develops and designs training programs for proper interpretation of EEO laws and departmental rules.
• Reviews statistical reports on personnel actions broken down by race and sex on a quarterly basis.
