About The Position

This position is an in-person job opportunity located on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM), an Adtalem Global Education institution, prepares students to become veterinary leaders by drawing connections among animals, people and the planet, as a member of the One Health Initiative. RUSVM offers research programs focused on emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases, conservation medicine and ecosystem health. RUSVM has graduated more than 6,000 students and offers postgraduate master’s, PhD, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programs accredited by the St. Christopher & Nevis Accreditation Board and the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education. RUSVM is located on St. Kitts and includes the Ross University Veterinary Clinic, accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association.

Requirements

• Willingness to reside on the island of St Kitts on a full-time basis (relocation provided).
• A DVM or comparable degree is essential.
• A PhD is highly desirable, as is graduate training in epidemiology and/or veterinary preventive medicine.
• Demonstrated competency in teaching DVM students, including teaching to large class sizes.
• Experience in various areas of veterinary epidemiology such as design and implementation of observational and experimental epidemiologic studies, modeling of animal infectious diseases, disease surveillance, molecular epidemiology, diagnostic test result evaluation, and information technology.
• Research publications in a relevant field of veterinary medicine, as well as potential to collaborate in research or develop an independent research program.
• A strong commitment to meeting the needs of students and an understanding of student-centered learning, in collaboration with the existing veterinary public health/epidemiology teaching team.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere and to enthuse and positively influence students.

Responsibilities

• Teach veterinary public health and epidemiology to veterinary students and graduate students on topics such as quantitative epidemiology, disease surveillance and control, outbreak investigation, zoonotic and foodborne diseases.
• Participate in other team-taught didactic courses as needed.
• Participate in Graduate Teaching (online Master’s in One Health).
• Lead an independent research program, and/or collaborative research program, and promote research to professional veterinary students.
• Research should result in publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Provide support to research-active faculty in study design and data analysis.
• Add to the research expansion of the University.
• Forge collaborations with relevant strategic partners to provide maximum impact for research and programs.
• Engagement in service activities, including faculty meetings, assigned committees, and designated office hours.
• Serve on postgraduate committees for Master’s and PhD students.
• Complete other duties as determined and assigned by the Department and/or Division Head.
