About The Position

The CDC Foundation seeks an experienced, full-time epidemiologist to support a Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) program. This role will analyze data from the family planning module as well as other modules and/or the core BRFSS as needed to discover important findings and share insights with partners. The epidemiologist may provide direct technical assistance to state partners and learn more about relevant local conditions to contextualize findings. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public's health. This field employee position will collaborate with the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Atlanta-based candidates are strongly preferred. Relocation expenses are not provided. The CDC Foundation offers an attractive salary and benefits package. This is a full-time position funded through September 30, 2026.

Requirements

  • Minimum Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a background in epidemiology, biostatistics, or related field required. PhD is preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of related professional experience required with direct experience in data analysis and the BRFSS or 5 years of related professional experience with a PhD
  • Advanced proficiency in data management and survey analysis using SAS or other statistical software
  • Experience in the design and execution of epidemiologic research, including advanced statistical analysis and publishing results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing, and editing complex documents such as detailed reports to donors; briefing documents for external audiences, donors, and other stakeholders/partners; and peer-reviewed articles
  • Ability to represent the CDC Foundation and its partners, leading discussions and negotiations concerning evaluation framework, activities, and outcomes
  • Demonstrates the ability to work well independently and within teams
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic, and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, donors, stakeholders, and partners
  • Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels both internally and externally

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with complementary data sets such as the Pregnancy Risk Assessment and Monitoring Survey (PRAMS) is preferred
  • Experience with the CDC Levels of Care Assessment Tool (LOCATe) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Explore, manage, and analyze BRFSS and family planning data to monitor trends, review completeness, identify important insights, perform related quantitative analysis, and communicate findings through dissemination products
  • As needed, provide technical assistance and support to state-level partners to help them translate data analysis findings into actionable strategies
  • Serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of public health and health communications professionals, researchers, and evaluators
  • Prepares narrative reports, presentations, briefing documents, and other relevant communications to key internal and external partners in collaboration with colleagues
  • Represents the CDC Foundation at technical meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • May travel domestically as needed to represent the designated programs and the CDC Foundation (up to 10% annually)
  • Participates in and/or leads special projects and other duties as assigned
