The Informatics Epidemiologist position at Staffing Solutions Organization involves providing business and technical support to enhance data connections and interoperability within the Maine CDC. The role serves as a liaison between epidemiologists and informaticians, focusing on the analysis and visualization of infectious disease data. The Informatics Epidemiologist II additionally supervises staff and leads informatics meetings, contributing to the overall goals of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Team.

  • Onboard new facilities for electronic case reporting (eCR) and/or electronic laboratory reporting (ELR)
  • Review and validate eCR and/or ELR messages
  • Author and maintain reporting conditions in the Reportable Conditions Knowledge Management System (RCKMS)
  • Support the Maine Immunization Registry
  • Help improve automation of disease reports through workflow decision support
  • Help improve automation of data review through Python programming
  • Onboard new Message Mapping Guides
  • Build and automate data visualizations using Tableau
  • Improve interoperability between data systems
  • Coordinate with public health partners including federal CDC, local hospitals, and providers' offices
  • Participate in data modernization planning and goal execution
  • Ensure progress towards grant objectives and assist with grant writing
  • Participate in exercises and planning efforts
  • Participate in and contribute to overall Infectious Disease Program planning and evaluation activities
  • Supervise Informatics Epidemiologists and conduct weekly check-ins and annual performance evaluations (for Informatics Epidemiologist II)
  • Help develop training materials and protocols (for Informatics Epidemiologist II)
  • Train new Informatics Epidemiologists with Maine CDC training materials and protocols (for Informatics Epidemiologist II)
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Information Systems, or related fields
  • 4 years of relevant experience
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Information Systems, or related field
  • At least two years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to speak and write in multiple languages
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of epidemiology and public health surveillance
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical software
  • Knowledge of data collection and management
  • Familiarity with coding languages (SAS, R, Python, SQL, Java)
  • Understanding of health messaging (HL7, FHIR, ELR, eCR)
  • Experience with surveillance systems (NEDSS, ESSENCE, ImmPact)
  • Proficiency in data visualization software (Tableau, ArcGIS, Power BI)
  • Knowledge of infectious diseases, including risk and transmission
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Salary range from $52,000 to $93,600 depending on experience and location
  • Full-time positions with a normal schedule of 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday
