About The Position

The Epidemiologist II position at the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) involves performing epidemiologic duties related to the collection and analysis of wastewater data through the National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS). The role includes data visualization, public health recommendations, and serving as a liaison with the public and agency staff. The incumbent will also participate in Epi On-Call rotations for disease surveillance and reporting outside of regular hours.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Life, Physical, Health Science or related field.
• Six months experience using epidemiological methods to control public health problems.
• Six months experience designing, conducting, and analyzing epidemiologic studies.
• Six months experience designing and using surveillance systems for public health monitoring.
• Six months experience in inferential statistics such as correlation and analysis of variance.
• Six months experience preparing statistical summaries and scientific reports.
• Six months experience providing epidemiologic guidance to agencies and organizations.
• Six months experience managing budgets, grants, or contracts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct epidemiologic investigations and studies.
• Identify public health problems and determine feasibility and approach for studies.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data using statistical techniques to identify outbreaks and trends.
• Maintain surveillance systems for monitoring disease trends.
• Make recommendations for operations, programs, and policies based on findings.
• Participate in internal and external committees related to areas of expertise.
