About The Position

Join the Kentucky Department for Public Health's Kentucky Diabetes Prevention and Control Program in an exciting opportunity to support efforts to improve the lives and health of people living with, or at risk for, diabetes. The Epidemiologist II program evaluator provides essential expertise through leading evaluation processes and working with programmatic staff to ensure that all activities can utilize data for program improvement, and are aligned with funding guidelines and best practices. You will be joining a supportive team in a flexible, hybrid work environment that values your contribution and collaboration. This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position. DPH has the ability to be competitive with compensation. Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in public health or environmental health or related field OR A bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least two graduate level courses in epidemiology, public health, research methods, epidemiological research methods, population health, or disease investigation or other related courses AND one graduate level course in data analysis, statistics, biostatistics, public health programming, epidemiological programming, health analytics, demography, or other related courses
  • Two years of professional experience as an epidemiologist or in providing epidemiology functions.
  • A master's degree in public health (MPH) will substitute for the bachelor's degree and the two years required experience.
  • A Master of Science degree in public health (MSPH) will substitute for the bachelor's degree and the two years required experience.
  • A Master of Science in Epidemiology will substitute for the bachelor's degree and the two years required experience.
  • A master's degree and successful completion of at least two graduate level courses in the following: epidemiology, public health or epidemiological research methods, population health, disease investigation or analysis, statistics, biostatistics, public health or epidemiological programming, data analysis in public health, health analytics, demography, or other related courses will substitute for the bachelor's degree and the two years required experience.

  • Proficiency in utilization of various evaluation platforms, including REDCap and data server administration, survey creation and dissemination, and visualization software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, refine, and implement all evaluation documents and processes
  • Collect and analyze data using advanced epidemiological methods, using data such as the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, Hospital Discharge Data sets, National Quality Form and others
  • Use statistical software to manage and analyze large databases of surveillance or epidemiological study data
  • Communicate and disseminate data to health professionals and the public in appropriate and understandable formats including infographics and public-facing reports
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of program and partner activities.
