About The Position

The Zoonosis Control Epidemiologist plays a critical role in public health by providing consultative and technical services related to zoonotic diseases. Under the direction of the Zoonosis Control Veterinarian, this position involves conducting epidemiological investigations, maintaining disease surveillance programs, and educating various stakeholders about zoonotic disease prevention and control. The role requires independent judgment and initiative, as well as collaboration with local and state agencies to enhance zoonosis control efforts.

Requirements

• Master's degree in a relevant field of study or a Bachelor's degree with relevant experience.
• At least three years of experience in public health, disease surveillance, or epidemiology.
• Experience in using spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
• Valid Class C Texas driver's license or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

• Licensed veterinary technician certification.
• Experience in field disease surveillance activities.
• Knowledge of zoonotic disease dynamics and public health problems.

Responsibilities

• Investigate zoonotic disease incidents in coordination with local health departments.
• Prepare epidemiological reports and maintain electronic databases for investigations.
• Provide consultative services to health care professionals and public health officials regarding zoonotic diseases.
• Conduct inspections of rabies quarantine facilities and ensure compliance with state regulations.
• Coordinate and conduct zoonotic disease surveillance activities and maintain inventory of surveillance equipment.
• Develop and present educational programs about zoonotic diseases to various audiences.
• Assist in bioterrorism and disaster response activities as needed.
