An Epic Patient Access Analyst supports the configuration and implementation of Epic Revenue Cycle modules which include Prelude and Cadence, and may include Cheers CRM, Campaigns, Referrals and Authorizations, and Real time Eligibility. The core of this role focuses on scheduling, registration, and patient check-in workflows. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams and clinicians, performing system builds and testing, and providing go-live support for new Epic configurations. Candidates must hold or obtain Epic certifications, experience in healthcare operations, and strong analytical and communication skills.

  • Plays a key role in the development, support, and rollout of the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Responsible for helping optimize workflow processes by configuring and customizing Epic applications that meet the specific needs of the organization.
  • Collaborates with clinical and operational teams to support the implementation and ongoing use of Epic across the health system, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Participates in all phases of the system development life cycle, including gathering requirements, developing use cases, and evaluating software solutions.
  • Understands foundational workflows.
  • Translates operational requests into action.
  • Develops, configures, and modifies moderately complex information systems to support clinical and operational needs.
  • Creates and maintains documentation of business requirements, workflows (current and future state), and system configurations.
  • Designs, codes/configures, tests, and maintains application programs.
  • Coordinates all testing phases of Epic applications during implementations, upgrades, and optimizations.
  • Supports existing application functionality and expand support to additional areas as needed.
  • Develops strong working relationships with end users, business partners, and Epic project teams to ensure optimal system usage.
  • Utilizes Epic best practices to ensure system build meets organizational standards and workflows.
  • Provides hands-on training and support to end users.
  • Serves as a key onsite Epic resource during system implementations and ongoing support activities.
  • Lead and facilitate team activities related to IT and clinical/business systems.
  • Provides second-level support for incidents and requests related to the Epic application.
  • Serves as project lead for Epic software releases and new application implementations.
  • Participates in on-call support as needed for system troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Leads and monitors application testing and validation during system upgrades or new module implementations.
  • Provides input into policies, procedures, training materials, and best practices related to Epic usage and system optimization.
  • Collaborates with facility core team members to deliver hands-on training as needed.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with end users and facility leadership (physicians, nurses, revenue cycle, health information management, etc.).
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience is required.
  • 5-7 years of relevant IIS, clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Epic Certification: Certification in one or more Epic modules (e.g., EpicCare Ambulatory, Willow, Orders) is highly desirable.
  • For IIS candidates: Experience in systems integration, data management, healthcare IT, and workflow automation.
  • Knowledge of system architecture, database design, and project management in a healthcare setting is essential.
  • For Clinical candidates: Hands-on clinical experience (e.g., nursing, pharmacy, or allied health professions) with a deep understanding of clinical workflows and patient care processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to translate user needs into system functionality, and a collaborative mindset to work across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Operational Experience in Healthcare Settings: Proven experience in healthcare operations, including a solid understanding of the day-to-day functions of clinical, administrative, or IT departments.
  • Collaborative and Independent Work Abilities: Capable of working autonomously to solve problems, while also being an active contributor in cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-Solving and Solution Translation: Skilled at diagnosing and resolving complex technical and workflow-related issues.
  • Comprehensive Understanding of Healthcare Business Processes and Technology: Deep understanding of healthcare operations, with the ability to connect healthcare business needs with technology.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare IT Solutions and Interfacing: For IIS candidates, proficiency with IT solutions, data integration, and interfacing between systems.
  • Preferred Current certification in Epic Cadence and one other Patient Access Certification.
  • Preferred experience working in hospital or clinic operations, especially in patient access, scheduling, or registration workflows.
  • Proficiency in application design, system build, testing, troubleshooting, and support within an IT setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and work strongly in a team environment.
