About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Substation Engineer who will work alongside engineers and management within Leidos' Power Delivery Services (PDS) division. This position will be part of an established Project Management Office (PMO) that provides consulting services to both public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities. These consulting services provide clients with overall project management tasks in the areas of comprehensive engineering design of electrical transmission and distribution, substation and transmission line projects nationwide. You can look forward to collaborative and flexible work hours/work arrangements, as well as managers who will encourage career development and growth opportunities, including: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification Professional Engineer License Leadership training & Management opportunities Formal Mentorship programs Professional Development & Continuing Education Resources Technical Upskilling programs As a Substation Engineer (EPC), you can expect to: Perform Physical Electrical, Protection and Control, SCADA Systems, Station Communications and Station Automation design on small to medium sized utility substation engineering projects with medium complexity. Perform medium to advanced complexity engineering calculations to support engineering design. Read and design substation physical drawings such as operation one-line drawings, electrical plan and section drawings, foundation layouts, grounding layouts and details, Conduit layouts and details. Assist senior engineers with engineering studies. Prepare project deliverables including but not limited to engineered drawings, technical reports, project-related correspondence and miscellaneous project documentation. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines as required. Should be able to assess the impacts of design changes on other disciplines to pick the best solution. Perform Quality Control reviews on smaller projects. Prepare portions of smaller proposals under the direction of project engineers. Provide drawing counts and manhour estimates for small to medium sized projects. Assist the team with the development of processes and procedures to improve project execution efficiency. Maintain accurate records and files and a high level of organization. Take opportunities to improve technical knowledge and understanding of the work. Develop and provide moderate complexity technical presentations to the team to assist with training and staff development. Assist project engineer with project-related technical support to field personnel during construction. Support Leidos’ goals and represent the company positively and professionally.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • 0+ years of prior relevant experience in utility substation design with a B.S. degree OR M.S. degree
  • Familiarity with electric infrastructure and the theories and principles involved in substation engineering.
  • Experience with engineering programs and software (including SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CDEGS, or vendor software).
  • Competency in applying basic theories and principals involved in substation engineering.
  • Experience with Engineering, Procurement & Construction turnkey projects for electric utilities is strongly preferred
  • Keen focus on quality and an appreciation for high quality deliverables.
  • Understanding of the importance of quality and quality control in power/consulting industry.
  • Strong attention to details
  • Ability to meet deadlines under high pressure situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Bentley ProjectWise data management system.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT)
