About The Position

Under general direction of the Cath Lab Manager, Director of Cardiac Services and Cath Lab Medical Director, the Electrophysiology Technician renders individualized patient care. Patient care assignments include patient care, functioning as a scrub assistant to the physician for all diagnostic and intervention electrophysiology procedures.

Requirements

Arrhythmia recognition and 12-lead EKG certification, or completion of an accredited Cardiac Electrophysiology Program, or one year experience in an Electrophysiology Lab, or one year experience in a critical care environment.
BCLS or ACLS Certification

Responsibilities

Admits patients pre procedure and appropriately assesses and prepares them for procedure.
Prepares the room, trays, procedures and patients according to physician preference cards.
Assists with physician querying to acquire or clarify necessary medical record documentation to facilitate accurate and complete coding and abstraction in support of clinical quality documentation.
Assists in cleaning and preparing procedure rooms. Cleans reusable equipment, rinses soiled instruments and transports to sterile prep.
Assists in cleaning and preparing the rooms for procedures to follow.
Practices aseptic technique in opening sterile drape packs, catheters, equipment and supplies.
Answers the telephone promptly and courteously and relays calls/messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
Assists other team members by offering assistance to distribute the workload.
Cleanses skin immediately following procedure and applies dressings to puncture sites.
Provides care to a patient immediately prior to surgery and verifies required procedures/tests and documentation in the clinical record.
Practices aseptic technique in opening sterile drape packs, catheters, equipment and supplies.
Adheres to infection control guidelines: uses good hand washing technique, adheres to isolation policy, cleans equipment between patients, helps keep patient rooms and units clean, follows aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, setting-up and doing procedures, disposes of infectious waste properly.
Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures; regularly practices aseptic techniques and strictly obeys isolation and infection control procedures; prevents cross contamination during procedures.
Sets up for and assists physicians during invasive procedures; processes specimens and delivers them to appropriate labs, monitors patient's vital signs while in the lab, cleans equipment after procedure.
Monitors patients ECG, blood pressure, arterial and right heart pressures and oxygen saturation readings.
Assists with Electrophysiology and RF ablations; operates electrophysiology computer, amplifiers, ablation unit and stimulators; measures intervals and identifies changes.
Communicates and assists in maintaining department equipment by: Removing broken equipment per policy, alerting appropriate resources of faulty/broken equipment, assuring management is aware of problem and action taken. Checks and refills supplies, identifies if last item is used.
