About The Position

The Environmentalist II position at Navicent Health Medical Center - Environmental Services is a full-time role responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety across various facilities. This includes tasks such as carpet extraction, upholstery cleaning, floor maintenance (stripping and refinishing), and assisting with setups and minor moves. The role also involves reporting hazards, policing grounds for debris, and managing waste disposal, including biohazardous materials, while adhering to safety standards. The Environmentalist II is expected to practice Operation Excellence in all interactions and contribute to preparing new projects for opening. Requirements

  • Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics.
  • Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly.
  • Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments and be self directed to complete jobs as ordered.
  • Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations.
  • Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to prioritize job tasks and organize work space to be efficient and conducive to completing work tasks as assigned in a timely manner.
  • If job class is identified as falling under POPE C, the individual must pass the cardiac recovery test.

Responsibilities

  • Extract carpeted surfaces, clean upholstery, or bonnet carpets throughout any of CGHS’s facilities.
  • Report any hazards to a Supervisor.
  • Place Wet Floor Signs in a manner that is easily recognizable to any patient, visitor or fellow employee when doing any sort of maintenance on any floor surface, directing traffic to the safe part of a floor or corridor.
  • Assist with setups throughout the hospital, especially in the Trice Conference Center or West Tower.
  • Help with minor moves at any of CGHS’s facilities at the direction of the Supervisor.
  • Transport large items to the Macon City Landfill on occasion when these items cannot be disposed of via the compactors.
  • Prepare new projects for opening.
  • Prepare all floor surfaces for traffic on a given schedule.
  • Strip and refinish patient rooms as quickly as possible in order to facilitate the placement of another patient in that room.
  • Strip and refinish the floor of an elevator as quickly as possible in order to facilitate the flow of patients and visitors through that parking deck.
  • Practice the highest level of Operation Excellence in any interactions with patients, visitors or fellow employees.
  • Report any maintenance items that need the attention of the Facilities Management Department to his or her Supervisor for follow up.
  • Police the grounds for debris, trash and cigarette butts both around his or her assigned area, but also anywhere on the hospital grounds.
  • Utilize equipment in as safe a manner as possible, including placement of electrical cords and use of other protective equipment, such as no-slide shoes.
  • Return all equipment to the Equipment Room in clean and working order.
  • Make on-the-spot decisions regarding what materials are safe to be disposed of, and what is not.
  • Effectively and efficiently package biohazardous waste so that the most cost-effective and safe weight is achieved.
  • Correctly package and handle biohazardous waste according to safety standards when moving it throughout the hospital, as well as preparing it for shipment.
  • Make several rounds of the MCCG facility each shift in order to remove the refuse from the patient units.
  • Use large rolling bins (with closed tops) in order to transport the refuse.
  • Move cardboard throughout the facility in order to have it recycled, regularly moving this material to the cardboard compactor.
