About The Position

Environmental Worker performs moderate to heavy manual work housekeeping tasks on an assigned shift in a hospital setting. Employees in this classification perform manual work involving a variety of housekeeping tasks to assist in the maintenance of the hospital.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Non-licensed worker.
  • Job functions requires extended walking or standing.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladder, stoop, bend, crawl and perform repetitive motions as needed.
  • Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift , push or pull objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
  • Function requires visual acuity to perform job related activities such as: operating machines or motor vehicles and performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a repetitive and non-repetitive nature.
  • Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations.
  • Jobs in this group frequently work outdoors, are subject to potential hazards and may have exposure to extreme weather and high temperatures, noisy or dusty areas and confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Vacuums or sweeps, mops and wet washes floors daily.
  • Cleans the assigned patient and non-patient care areas.
  • Collects and transports trash, cleans and relines trash containers with plastic bags, in accordance with daily work schedule.
  • Maintains responsibility for the following duties; - filling soap, paper towels and toilet paper dispensers. - emptying sharp boxes. - placing gowns in designated storage areas as needed. - defrosting and cleansing of assigned refrigerators on a bi-week schedule.
  • Responsible for daily dusting of all counter tops and shelves inside/outside, also wiping of cabinets.
  • Completes all cleaning of discharge patient units, as vacancies occur.
  • Daily monitoring of the delivery of laundry for assigned units.
  • Utilizes detergents, disinfectants, polishes, finishes, etc.in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Cleaning for all isolates, warmers, IMED pumps, monitors, bill lights and any other related equipment used upon patients' discharge.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
