As an Environmental Technician you will assist with the collection and proper management of inspection and monitoring data associated with environmental monitoring programs, such as leak detection and repairs (LDAR), cooling tower monitoring, storage tank seal inspections, process and waste water sample collection, and RCRA inspections. Ensures that all control, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements related to assigned areas of responsibility are satisfied. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 3 years of experience as an environmental technician or similar position in an industrial setting required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Bill Greehey Refinery, required.
  • All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). It is Valero’s policy that employees must wear this card at all times while working at the refinery. Please review eligibility criteria at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic.

Responsibilities

  • Performs leak detection monitoring in specific process units.
  • Performs daily and quarterly calibration/repairs on OVA gas analyzers.
  • Conducts first attempt maintenance on leaking components.
  • Conducts re-monitoring of maintenance attempts on leakers.
  • Conducts tagging and retagging of components as needed.
  • Completes paperwork – leak logs, purple-tag logs, identification of problem monitoring leakers, maintenance requisitions, delay of repair forms, maintenance work orders, monthly drain inspections, tank seal inspections, etc.
  • Provides all paperwork needed for monitoring.
  • Inspects car seals on closed vent systems.
  • Generates and produce semi-annual reports as needed.
  • Performs storage tank roof and seal inspections.
  • Documents and report any leaks observed by sight, smell, or sound.
  • Conducts monitoring and provide records on cooling tower emissions.
  • Assists with regulatory inspections as needed.
  • Conducts visible emission observations.
  • Performs ambient air sampling during emergency release incidents, as requested.
  • Performs waste/wastewater inspections and sampling.
  • Collects refinery process samples to support regulatory programs.
  • Assists in the coordination of third-party contractor LDAR monitoring.
  • Assists with implementation of environmental compliance programs.
  • Assists with the proper handling and disposal of all wastes (e.g., non-hazardous, hazardous, universal, etc.).
  • Interfaces with other refinery departments (e.g., Operations and Maintenance) as necessary to ensure refinery compliance with environmental obligations.
