About The Position

Performs a variety of tasks in the controlling and monitoring of chemicals within the company facility or manufacturing production organization in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations such as EPA Clean Water Act and DOT Toxic Substances Control Act. Monitors chemicals, related equipment, and waste system indicators; makes chemical and equipment adjustments to ensure proper system functioning and chemical solution balance; removes and disposes of waste chemicals, solvents, and acids; inspects hazardous waste production and storage units; and maintains operational logs. Cleans up chemical spills. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Must have a good understanding of chemicals (acids, bases, oxidizers, flammables, reducers, water-reactive) in a variety of forms (liquids, solids, gases, sludges, slurries) and related incompatibilities to prevent undesirable chemical reactions. Work is performed in occasional hazardous working conditions and requires the use of specialized safety equipment and apparatuses.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Annual RCRA training and OSHA training
  • Basic computer proficiency and functional knowledge
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc
  • ADEQ Waste Treatment Operators License
  • 40 hour Hazwoper
  • 24 Hour Dot
  • High Pressure Boiler License
  • Wastewater License (basic industrial)
  • Must be available to adjust schedule to meet business needs which may include weekends, on-call and overtime work
  • Must be able to cross train and learn new areas to meet business needs
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Make chemical additions to process tanks and record data.
  • Verify pressure drops on paint booths and differential pressure on scrubbers.
  • Conduct analysis on various WWTP streams to maintain POTW compliance.
  • Hazardous waste labeling and identification.
  • Work with production to make sure hazardous waste drums are moved in a timely manner.
  • Perform weekly chemical inventory.
  • Maintain boiler maintenance and chemicals.
  • Rebuild pumps and do routine maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain caustic regeneration system.
  • Respond to any spills or leaks in a professional and legal manner.
  • Operate presses on WWTP.
  • Maintain carbon absorbers and Solvent Recovery System.
  • Perform tank refreshments as instructed.
  • Other various duties as needed or as assigned.
