The Environmental Technician I provides field and technical support for environmental and natural resources monitoring projects in the Baltimore area. This role supports construction-phase compliance, data collection, and environmental stewardship efforts across a variety of project sites. The position requires extensive outdoor fieldwork, including work from marine vessels, and the ability to work extended hours. Technicians may work up to 12 hours per day, up to 6 days per week (Monday through Saturday), with eligibility for overtime pay. Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or related field
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Well-developed organizational and communication skills.
  • Prolonged periods standing
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor fieldwork in varying and occasionally adverse weather conditions
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to traverse various types of terrain for extended periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to use and interpret water quality monitoring instrumentation
  • Ability to identify (or quicky learn to identify) fish and vegetation species
  • Experience using GPS, tablet computers, and other field equipment
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, FieldMaps, Survey 123
  • Familiarity with Federal, state, and local environmental regulations and policies

Responsibilities

  • Conduct construction-phase water quality monitoring, including water chemistry, groundwater, stormwater, and biological sampling
  • Perform construction-phase natural resources monitoring, including fisheries, vegetation, and site condition assessments
  • Conduct erosion and sediment control inspections
  • Document monitoring results using field tablets and applications
  • Organize, summarize, and interpret data and support development of technical reports
  • As needed, assist with stream assessments and restoration monitoring (stream pattern and profile)
  • As needed, create and interpret ArcGIS maps for use in the field and reports and conduct basic geo-processing analyses
  • Work extended hours, including early mornings, long days, weekends, and variable schedules (up to 12 hours per day, up to 6 days per week)
