About The Position

The Environmental Technician at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment within the facility. This role focuses on daily cleaning tasks, ensuring timely room turnaround, and adhering to infection prevention standards. The technician plays a crucial role in enhancing the customer experience through effective cleaning and disinfection practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 4 or more years of Environmental Services Experience.
  • Previous floor/carpet care maintenance experience required.
  • Completion of a Comprehensive Floor Care Program is mandatory.
  • Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) preferred.
  • Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT) preferred.
  • DOT Certificate mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers using appropriate engagement techniques.
  • Perform all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, including hard surfaces and carpeting.
  • Adhere to all organizational safety, risk management, and infection control standards while promoting a culture of safety.
  • Clean and perform routine maintenance on floor equipment, requesting assistance from plant operations and maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain accurate floor care logs and checklists.
  • Mix chemicals according to instructions and understand the appropriate pads, brushes, and screens for each flooring job.
  • Operate all equipment with care and according to facility and manufacturer safety standards and procedures.
  • Maintain a key log for equipment sign-in/out and use communication devices properly.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including those aimed at improving HCAHPS scores related to hospital cleanliness.
  • Perform project work and specialty tasks according to facility needs, including conference room setup and cleaning of stairwells and elevators.
  • Remove waste and transport it to the appropriate disposal area while identifying the proper waste stream.
  • Follow all infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning processes, hand hygiene, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
  • Operate UV disinfection machines as needed or according to policy.
  • Complete other assigned tasks by EVS Leadership.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies.
